Environmental and Health Impacts of Waste
Waste gives several environmental impacts for humans and environment. The impact for human is the decline in the level of health. Besides that, waste can also reduce aesthetic, smell bad. Waste can also affect the environment, both of the ecosystem of water and terrestrial ecosystem.

First is the impact on ecosystem of water. Garbage thrown from various sources can be distinguished to be organic and inorganic waste. On one side, organic waste can be food for fish and other living creatures, but on the other side waste can also reduce levels of oxygen in the water. Inorganic waste can reduce sunlight into the water environment. As a result, the essential process of photosynthesis in the ecosystem can be disturbed.

Organic and inorganic wastes also make the water turbid. This condition will reduce a micro organism that can live in that condition. As a result, the population of animals or plants are diminished. Seepage waste that goes into the drainage or river will pollute water. Various micro organisms including various fish can die so that some species will disappear. This has resulted in the change of water ecosystem biologically.

Garbage dumped into the ecosystem can invite certain micro organism to come and multiply. The micro organisms which usually use garbage, especially organic waste, are rats, flies, cockroaches and others. The animal population will rise sharply because their natural enemy are very rare.

Heap of garbage can cause a variety of issues, either directly or indirectly, to the inhabitants of a city. The direct effects of waste management maladroit are various infectious diseases and can disrupt health of humans and the environment. Meanwhile, the indirect effect is the danger of flooding due to a maximum of water that obstructed in a river by heap of garbage dumped into river.

Pollution of ground can be caused by organic and inorganic waste, for example from domestic activities, the market, industry, agricultural activities, and animal husbandry. In terms of the environmental sustainability, organic waste is more profitable because It is more easily degraded by the micro organisms and fused back to nature. The inorganic waste like plastic waste and various types of bottle, cans, etc are difficult trash to be degraded and make accumulation pollution.

Trash pile will cover the land so that soil cannot be absorbed well. Besides, heap of garbage can produce gas and acid. Nitrous sulphide, a kind of mercury, chrome and arsenic in the heaps of rubbish can inflict destructive bio ground flowering plants to its structures and soil surface texture. Inorganic waste which is not bio-degraded, causes subsoil to be impenetrable by the roots of the plant but it is impermeable to water and also mineral water and absorption that can fertilize land and the number of micro organisms inside the ground can be diminished. As a result, the plants are difficult to grow even they die because they do not get food to develop.

There are many impacts of waste for us and our environment. This is also our responsibility to help the government to solve the problem of waste and reduce the impacts. We can change the waste become material which has economical values or we can process the waste to be the material that was not harmful to the environment. Stand up and keep our environment clean.
